Keeping perspective

by | Jul 21, 2009 |

I want to begin this post by saying that my thoughts and prayers are with Jorge and Ed Torres and there families. On Sunday morning their Mother, Ed’s wife and their long time friend and youth coach were in a very serious accident traveling back to Chicago from Colorado. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
I was already going to write this post about something out side of running but this recent accident has made me think even more about how often we lose track of the important things in life.
I want to take this opportunity to ask for all of your help. I have been given many things in life because of running and hopefully I get some of your help for a fellow runner and great human being.

Many of you may know  Julius Achon. He is an Olympian and NCAA champion who went to George Mason University. He now trains with our group under Alberto and he has devoted his full time to helping us prepare to be the best.  He comes from one of the poorest villages in Uganda and he has made a life for himself here in US, meanwhile sending all his extra income back to the village to support orphans and family in his war-torn country.  For many of of you who have seen “The Last King of Scotland”, you can only imagine the life he has lived.  But all the while he can only think of helping others.  Right now the people of his village have to walk 16 miles round trip to get water from a contaminated swamp.  He is trying to raise $15,000 to drill a well to bring safe clean water to the village.  Please visit his website at www.achonacademy.com and donate if you can, it is a nonprofit fund.  If you read his story you will be inspired and if you donate I would be happy to send you a signed autograph card if you leave your address in the comments page. Thanks again for your support for this cause and for your thoughts and prayers for Jorge and Ed’s family and friends.  Until next time…
